If you look like a spammer (links galore, off-topic, etc.), it won’t get posted.
If you disagree with me, I’ll still let it get posted. However, if it looks like you’re being disagreeable for the sake of being so, or continue a circular argument, I might just not post it. That’s just the reality of things. I’m not a fan of censorship, but sometimes you need to take megaphones away from people.
Other circumstances may prevent a comment from being posted. I really can’t convince everyone that comes to the blog saying “why did you delete my comment” when I never received it that I didn’t block them out (people can and will believe whatever they wish). Coincidentally, if I’ve never seen you before and you post that, it won’t be approved. I’m on to you silly people.
I’ve got a “comment collector” mentality. I occasionally like to look back on stuff and deleting comments isn’t in my interest. Plus, there’s the appearance of popularity effect that comes from visitors seeing a high amount of comments. Let’s say I’m eager to approve.
