Triad: Three Bands, Six Songs

Category: Compilations, EPs & Other Collections, Reviews, Steve

I knew Triad was going to be unusual before I even heard it. It had six songs on it; two from each band. The cover looked interesting, too, consisting of a nice blend of grays and reds, and it was mirrored down the middle. The CD was entirely black, but had a textured design on [...]

The Hands of Caravaggio – John Tilbury and the M.I.M.E.O.

Category: Albums, Mac

The Hands of Caravaggio is a dark and surreal Alice-in-Wonderland soundscape where the only sound you think you recognize is the piano, and even that, you have surely never heard played in such way. Inspired by the work of a pre-Baroque era painter, fourteen modernist musicians create a very interesting record.

An Evening With John Petrucci & Jordan Rudess

Category: Albums, Mac, Shows

An Evening With John Petrucci & Jordan Rudess juxatposes two of today’s most skillful virtuosos. Real-life friends and Dream Theater bandmates, Petrucci and Rudess take us on a journey deep into the night, through a diverse range of styles and long improvisations. “Fife And Drum” has all the quaintness of a Renaissance-era English party song, while “Bite Of The Mosquito” sends us on a frantic journey through a day in the life of one of the little bloodsuckers.

Paramore: Brand New Eyes & A Slightly New Sound

Category: Albums, Reviews, Steve

There’s an anger in the vocals that hasn’t been heard from Hayley before, and it’s not just coating the entire song; it comes in at the right points, which tells me she’s writing songs with more emotion now. Brand New Eyes probably won’t be getting Paramore any new fans that hated them before this album, but it’s a step in the right direction for the band.

Monsters Of Folk’s Self-Titled 2009 Debut Album

Category: Albums, Reviews, Sean

Written by Almightyseancore
Oh great, another indie rock supergroup, with a self titled album, no less. The band consists of Conor Oberst (Bright Eyes/Desaparecidos/Mystic Valley Band), Jim James (My Morning Jacket), M. Ward (M. Ward/She And Him) and Mike Mogis (Bright Byes, and lots of production work, including The Gloria Record, and most Saddle-Creek bands). From [...]

Crash And Burn: The Album, The Band, The Song

Category: Albums, Reviews, Steve

On one of my occasional trips to my local record store, I picked up a CD from the extreme discount section titled Crash And Burn. The cover had red letters and the picture was of someone in an alleyway, drawn in a classic comic style. I thought to myself, “This has early 90s punk rock written all over it.” and sure enough, when I got home and listened to it for the first time, there was good ol’ fashion punk rock blasting out of my speakers.

Chicago III by Chicago

Category: Albums, Reviews, Shane

Written by Malkmusian
I thought that when I first heard The Chicago Transit Authority by the band that soon would become rock’s worst nightmare because of pressure from their label, Columbia, and bassist/egomaniac Peter Cetera, Chicago could never top it. CTA had so many perfect areas in it (the noise rock forefather “Free Form Guitar”, the [...]

Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band: Live In Tampa, Florida, September 12th, 2009

Category: Reviews, Shows, Steve

Written by Steve
The second the band started playing their opening song “Badlands”, I was drawn in immediately. Although Bruce’s voice wasn’t in the greatest shape that night, he could still hit every note almost flawlessly. That number was followed by “Out In The Street” and “My Lucky Day”, two more songs that beckon to be [...]
