Netbooks

Here you can discuss another one of those wonderful devices you can plug headphones into, the computer! Other electronic devices without audio ports are fine, too.

Netbooks

Postby Steve » Thu Aug 27, 2009 9:27 pm

I have fat fingers. I hate texting and I'm sure these won't be very forgiving either.
The concept is pretty cool though. I'd prefer the power of a larger one, though.

I found the advertisement pretty funny. "It's only a pound and a half!"
As opposed to what? Three, maybe four pounds? OH, WHAT A LOAD! HOW COULD ONE LIFT SUCH A WEIGHT?
I actually like a little weight on my computer.

Well, Steve. Weight is nice, but nothing beats a computer that you can actually take to the beach and use as a Frisbee.

I've always wanted a computer that could double as a coaster and heating pad.

I use my old laptop as a weight to keep my new one from getting blown off my desk!

I have big hands, it's a pain for me to type on such small keyboards. I can hardly get myself to type a word on those tiny things without messing up a few times.

Never heard of them, unless you just mean very small laptops

I need something with power. I don't just check my mail, Facebook and Twitter, maybe I want to play games.

And weren't laptops portable anyways? What makes netbooks more portable than laptops? Because they're smaller? HAH

If you just need something to type and use the internet with, they're not half bad. Trust me, when you're constantly lugging a laptop around all day, you begin to wish for a pound and a half as opposed to three or four.

What's with not being able to change the desktops, though? Makes it feel like you're using a borrowed computer instead of one all your own.

After two semesters of doing so, I can partially agree. I'd like it to be a little lighter, but the current weight isn't a hassle. The main problem I've had is the size; it takes up a lot of room in my bag, and there are books I need to carry daily.

I've been considering getting a netbook and putting a solid-state drive in it. I've had a hard disk crash on my too many times while moving the computer around.

I sort of fear having the thing get crushed by my books. My computer class last semester had two thick books which would have been unforgiving.

We have some HP netbooks at school. They aren't very high spec they are enough to get school work done and they are way better than the iBooks (aka "Gay Macs") we had before.

Also because it's a PC I can use Portable Appz on my flash drive (Like Photoshop and Halo 1).

I Got a Netbook

Postby Steve » Thu Dec 29, 2011 5:08 am

I finally got one!

1G of ram, 1.66 processor. It didn't come with the solid state hard drive I was hoping for, but it will work quite well as a work (and travel) computer as-is.

shit is stupid and a waste of money.

big pain in the ass to repair, due to lack of an optical drive.  if the recovery partition is fucked, you might as well throw the junk away, unless you have a tech ninja like myself willing to actually fix the bastard.
