About this album, written by Ophios himself:
The origonal FreQproJect was, technically, my first album.
Released in 2005, it was a two disc long sampler of various remixes I made from the video games "Frequency" and "Amplitude".
As like many of my older works, it faded away.
Cut to early 2009, I was in a(nother) artistic block, looking over my older albums, I desided to take the FreQproJect and, re-release it.
I got out my old DVD-R discs with which I have all my Frequency and Amplitude remixes, and recorded some which I didn't include in the 2005 edition.
I took each song, ran each of them through the mastering on my music making program, occasionally adding effects or changing the song in some form.
The remixes from the games themselves have gone through many changes.
I started making remixes of each song as soon as I unlocked them on each game.
Over the months and years, I would go back, delete the old remix, and make a new one (which basically ended up to be the old one, but slightly different)
The remixes slowly changed from my first attempts to what they are now
A mixture of what I origonally made, with bits and pieces of other remixes I have heard over the years (In a way, it's like the non-remix music I make)
The Remixes:
DISC ONE:
Strangeffects (Cosmic Assassins by DJ Q-Bert)
In the 05 version, this was right after "Corax", corax itself ended with a record scratching sound, which sequed into this remix
Largly unchanged from the version as it was recorded, except the muted parts during the section with the heavy orchestral sounds
This is one of the remixes that suffers from the fact that the games always have some sort of metronome sound in the back that never stops
Hyper Victorian (Science Genius Girl by Freezepop)
It's really hard to make a remix of this song that sounds... well, interesting.
This is close as I got to making something interesting from this song
Fast and somewhat complex patterns that gets traded amongst the synths and change throughout
Nuclear Rodeo (Official Chemical by Dub Pistols)
More or less a tribute to the awesome remix on the actual Frequency game made by one of the people who worked on the game
And a three note guitar solo
I use the scratcher here a lot more than most other tracks, but I think it works well here.
This remix is my personal favorite of this disc
Cyber Arabia (Kimosabe by BT)
Not the best title for this remix, perhaps if I make another re-release I'll think of a new name for this
Another remix that suffers from that non-stop tapping of the background metronome
In this version of the remix, I took the last section of the song (which is just the one before it but with a few different sounds)
And made it the second to last section, I felt that the new last section sounds a lot better as the ending compared to how it sounds in-game
Big Top (Funky Dope Maneuver by Symbion Project)
Like in the 05 version, this version has a snip of "Dubious" tacked on at the end
While this and others like it have to reason to be on the final track, I leave them in as a sort of audible version of a three second silence break
Also it may take some people by surprise if they've never heard this before
Another Another (Frequency by Fear Factory)
A few of the remixes in Frequency have a tendancy to repeat sections over and over
In fact a few of the songs in the game, when made into a remix is nothing more than a few sections repeated without change
The remix for Frequency itself is the same sections repeated twice
In this remix for the song, however, there is no repeating, I made two different remixes, and stuck half of one after the half of another
This process is somewhat reflected by the Remix's name
The only thing I changed otherwise was the heavy echo at the end of the first half
Frut Flesh (Bassline by Quarashi)
This is the only remix that was more influenced by the remixes made by others than the first remix I made myself
The only effect I added was a slow fade out
Loop Shed (XLR8R by Orbit)
The choruses on this remix are arranged differently than how they are in game
In game the choruses are set up like 1-1-2-2, which I felt was rather boring, so I changed it to 2-1-1-2
Abyss (Selecta by Ethan Eves)
This remix had a longer title "Intotheabyssandtoneverreturn", but I changed it into Abyss for the sake of simplicity
The only changes I made to the remix is that it is sped up a bit, the rapid left-right panning, and the echo at the end
Bobble Bebblu (Out the Akrobatik vs. Symbion Project)
The noise in the beginning is TV noise, which only shows up on certian remixes
Fortunatly, Audacity was able to remove the noise from this remix (not so well with the others)
A quick backwards echo, and some fast stuttering are the only post recording effects I put on this remix
There's also a tone at the end which I think is made from a small bit of song I was going to make a stutter from, but didn't in the end since there is enough stuttering in the remix already
Free your Mind (Synthesized by Symbion Project)
The name of this remix should be apparent to anyone that has listened to it
The beginning is a bit of the remix reversed, and a heavy echo finishes this song
GOS (The Winner by The Crystal Method)
Nothing to say here.
Gut Und Bose (Funny Break by Orbital)
Nothing much to note here but the dualing bass and treble synths
And a little TV buzz is still in the final remix
DISC TWO:
Post Moderne (Dynamite Fresh by Meat Beat Manifesto)
Nothing to note except noticable changes of pitch at the beginning
Those where done on purpose, to make a slightly different bassline at the beginning
2 (Railing Pt. 2 by Roni Size & Reprazent)
If I remember correctly, I had to lower the volume of some of the later sections because the bass too loud otherwise
Dubius (Worst Mistake by Curve)
The title of this is a reference to Guilty Gear video games (Dubius - Curve)
Another Remix that suffers from the ticking of the metronome
A slow down finishes the end of the remix with a sound that reminds me of a laser being fired
Last (Spaztik by Cosmonaut Zero)
Starts with TV buzz and a clip of "2"
Named Last since it was the last remix of the bunch made and recorded, in fact, at first I didn't want to put this in the album
But I figured that someone might like it, so I left it in
Drop the Point (I Am Hated by Slipknot)
Starts with with heavy echo sounds taken from the remix (I think these are slowed down too)
In fact the first sound is also the laser sound from the end of "Dubius"
Remix is named after the voice heard on the left side before the music is played which is just played backward
Origonally called 300 since, jokingly, I considered what the remix had in beats per minute (it's actually set at 150 in game)
The sudden stop was from the fact that I suddenly stopped the music in-game, the '05 version actually has the in-game sounds of me stopping the music and exiting.
Brimble (Higher Ground by Juno Reactor)
Nothing interesting about this one
DV2 (Danger Is Go by Powerman 5000)
I don't know why I made a remix of this, if you've heard one of this song, you've pretty much heard them all
The only thing worth nothing, musicwise, is the galloping snares at a couple of points in the remix
E (See It by Paul Oakenfold)
Another intro reversed, autopanned, and a slight repeat segueing into the remix itself
The name of the remix is not related to ecstasy the drug, it's merely a counter part to "2" as a one character title
But with this being a letter and not a number
Heavy reverb (not echos) fading out ends this remix
Tributary (King of Rock (X-Ecutioners Remix) Run-DMC)
A remix of a remix.
Name is a word play of "tribute".
Tribute being that this remix is one to the late Jam-Master Jay.
This remix is my personal Favorite of this disc.
F Word (Ignition - Funkstar De Luxe)
Title is a bit of juvenile word play.
Aside from echo at the end, nothing worth noting.
Genra Soda Punch (Cherry Lips by Garbage)
A strange remix.
Originally, I didn't want to put this on the album, but was put in because of the bell heavy middle section.
FunkBok15 (What's Going On by Mekon with Roxanne Shante)
A little bit of Amplitude scratching in this, a bit hard to do, since I had to do the scratching while recording, and there is a 1 second delay while recording, so I had to start the scratching ahead of time
You can hear some of the in-game noise at the end
TenTen (FreQout by Symbion Project)
As mentioned before, some remixes for songs are just a few sections repeated a couple of times
This one has the entire loop of sections repeated three times before the remix is considered finished
Named after an old alias that was used for one album, and quickly forgotten about
I just took the first repeat and left at that, with a fade out at the end
Bonus Disc:
Rickle (Smartbomb by BT)
Nothing of interest.
Corax (Uptown Saturday Night by Logan 7)
The name of this remix comes from another alias I used to have for music, Corvus Corax
I don't use that name anymore ever since I learned of a band that uses that
This remix ends with sounds from the Amplitude game
Wax (Nitro Narcosis by Manchild)
Heavy echo starts the remix, the echo is a continuation of the sounds that ended "Corax"
The name of this remix came from reading a "fact" that the origonal song was actually called "Wax Head"
Mars (End of Your World by Robotkid vs Inter:sekt)
This remix is called mars because several synths and basslines mimic the first couple of notes from the Mars movement from The Planets Suite by Gustav Holst
Like some previous songs, the remix for this is a handful of sections repeated over and over, this time, I only let it repeat twice
One Third (I Am Hated by Slipknot)
"I Am Hated" like "Frequency" by Fear Factory, are the only songs that had two remixes made and recorded for them
But unlike "Frequency" this song gets both remixes as two different remixes, instead of mashed into one
Because unlike the two "Frequency" remixes, this and it's sister remix "Drop The Point" are different enough to warrent seperation
This also was featured in the album "Lttle bits of brain" (misspelling intentional)
Pasture (Push by Game Boyz)
Although this remix didn't appear in the '05 edition of FreQproJect, it found it's way into a much later album, sharing tracks with "TenTen" under the title a different title
There is a huge slow down in the middle, I think it sounds better this way
And to end the album as a whole, the sounds of me bringing up the menu again, and exiting the music.
